Dennis R. Burton, Ph.D. Dr. Burton is currently a Professor in the Departments of Immunology and Molecular Biology at TSRI and is a leading expert in the structure and function of antibody molecules. His research currently focuses upon the understanding the antibody response to infectious pathogens. Dr. Burton is known for having produced the first human antibodies selected from phage libraries and the first neutralizing human antibodies against HIV, RSV, Ebola virus and hepatitis C virus. Dr. Burton has founded two biotechnology companies: Prolifaron and, together with Dr. Williamson, Prion Solutions. Dr. Burton received his degree in Chemistry at Oxford University in 1974 and his PhD in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance from the University of Lund in Sweden in 1978. He has authored over 250 original articles. Stefan Catsicas, Ph.D. Stefan Catsicas received a PhD in Neurosciences from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and did postdoctoral work at the Research institute of Scripps Clinic (San Diego, USA). He managed the research and preclinical development programs in Neurosciences at the Glaxo Research Institute (Geneva, Switzerland) and served as Professor and Chairman of Cellular Biology at the school of Medicine in Lausanne. He was then appointed Vice-President, Research Director and Professor of Cellular Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). In addition to his academic activities, Stefan Catsicas has promoted and advised investment funds and biotechnology companies in Europe and in the United States. He is one of the founders of Tilocor Life Science and has resigned from his academic duties to chair the group's activities. Tamas Bartfai, Ph.D. Tamas Bartfai, PhD, is the Chair of the Molecular and Integrative Neurosciences Department at the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla California. He has been serving as consultant, senior consultant, SAB member and Sr VP (Hoffmann La Roche, Basel) in phramaceutical industry (Astra ( 1975-95, Novartis (2000-2007, Lily, Pfizer2007- ), biotech industry, and venture capital industry since 1975. He has been involved in the development of vaccines, recombinant proteins and small molecule drugs. He has been a professor of the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm University, and serves as adjunct professor at Rockefeller University, Stanford University. He is a member of several academies. Anthony Williamson, Ph.D. Dr. Williamson was an Associate Professor in the Department of Immunology at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI), before joining Calmune as President and CEO. He has been involved in the isolation and development of neutralizing human antibodies against HSV, RSV, EBV, and many other human pathogenic viruses, as well as the development of the first monoclonal antibodies against prion proteins, the agents responsible for Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis (BSE or “Mad Cow Disease”). These antibodies were the basis of a diagnostic test for BSE commercialized by Prion Solutions, a company developed and acquired by Chiron. Dr. Williamson received his B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University Sheffield, where he also earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Immunology and Antibody Engineering in 1993. |
